About Medina
Robert J. Medina was born January 13, 1984 to Robert L. and Arlene S. Medina. Raised in Colorado he had high hopes in life and decided to enlist in the US Marine Corps on April 7, 2003, a decision his parents fully supported.
Medina is remembered as having been a happy, hard working, and loving individual who was also there to lend a hand. He helped his mother take care of his grandfather during his final battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.
Upon learning that his unit was to be deployed to Iraq he decided it was time to get married to his long time girlfriend and high school sweetheart, Jennifer Martinez. On September 16, 2005 they were married by the justice of the peace. Still just newlyweds, five months later, Medina left for Iraq February 20, 2006.
Medina was deployed as a truck driver stationed at Camp Taqaddum in Iraq. Fearful that he could be killed, Robert called his wife whenever he could, telling her he loved her. He wanted to make sure that she knew he was thinking of her always, and afraid that each time he spoke with her it would be the last.
No one ever imagined that Robert would survive the war only to die at the hands of law enforcement in Southern California.
